Every season starts with a checkup. Our sports physicals make sure your athlete is healthy, strong, and cleared to give their all on the field, court, or track.
Most schools and leagues require one before the season begins, and we make it quick, thorough, and stress-free.
A sports physical, also known as a preparticipation physical exam (PPE), is a key step in making sure your child is healthy and ready to participate in organized sports. Many schools and athletic programs require one before the season begins, and even when not required, it's highly recommended.
During the exam, Dr. Tandon and the D2K team evaluate your child's overall health, screen for underlying medical conditions, discuss ways to prevent injuries, and offer advice for safe play and practice, so they can perform their best.
🔬 During these comprehensive evaluations, we may need to refer your child to other specialists prior to clearing them for play. We'll always walk you through the "why" and the next steps.
A sports physical begins with a review of your child's medical history and family health background. This helps identify any existing conditions, past injuries, or inherited concerns that might affect their ability to play.
Then, Dr. Tandon or one of her qualified staff performs a thorough physical examination, which includes:
| Area | What We Check | Why It Matters |
|---|---|---|
| Vitals Baseline | Height, weight, blood pressure, and temperature | Establishes a healthy baseline for the season |
| Head & Body Function | Vision, heart, lungs, ears, nose, and throat | Rules out conditions that could affect performance or safety |
| Musculoskeletal Readiness | Posture, joint mobility, strength, flexibility, and reflexes | Flags injury risk before it becomes a problem |
| Whole-Child Readiness | Physical, emotional, and mental readiness to participate | Sports readiness is more than just the body |
| Additional As Needed | Any other exams required by your school or league | Keeps you compliant with program requirements |
This visit is also a valuable opportunity to discuss age-appropriate topics like nutrition, sleep, and injury prevention, along with important health issues such as substance use, eating disorders, or performance-enhancing drugs.
Cleared for play. If your child is in good health, the D2K team will complete any required forms for your school or sports league.
All ClearConcerns found. Asthma, a heart murmur, a past injury, or another condition may come up. Dr. Tandon and the team will work with you on a plan to manage it and help your child get back in the game.
Care Plan💬 Note: Not passing a sports physical doesn't necessarily mean your child can't play; it just means they may need further evaluation or treatment before participating safely.
